Elevator motors and drives

The machine decides how a lift feels: how smooth the start, how quiet the ride and how much energy it uses. These are the drive types we supply, and where each one fits best.

Geared Traction Motor

Geared Traction Motor: overview, close-up views and installation

The motor turns the sheave (pulley) through a gearbox, and the ropes move the cabin up and down. Best for low to mid-rise buildings, with cost-effective installation and maintenance.

Speed
0.5 – 1.0 m/s
Load capacity
400 – 1500 kg
Max floors
Up to 10 – 12 floors
Power rating
3.7 – 11 kW
Voltage
415 V, 3-phase AC
Noise level
Moderate (60 – 65 dB)
Best for
Residential and low-rise commercial buildings

Gearless Traction Motor (PMSM)

Gearless Traction Motor (PMSM): overview, close-up views and installation

A direct-drive motor with no gearbox. Smooth, silent and energy-efficient, it is ideal for high-rise and high-speed buildings.

Speed
1.0 – 4.0 m/s (higher in very tall buildings)
Load capacity
400 – 2000+ kg
Max floors
High-rise (20+ floors)
Power rating
5 – 25 kW
Voltage
415 V, 3-phase AC
Noise level
Low (50 – 55 dB)
Best for
High-rise residential, commercial and hospital towers

Hydraulic Motor (Pump-driven)

Hydraulic Motor (Pump-driven): overview, close-up views and installation

A pump drives fluid into a cylinder and the piston pressure lifts the cabin. Suited to low-rise buildings, with strong lifting force for heavy loads.

Speed
0.15 – 0.5 m/s
Load capacity
500 – 3000+ kg (up to heavy-duty goods lifts)
Max floors
Up to 6 floors
Power rating
5.5 – 15 kW
Voltage
415 V, 3-phase AC
Noise level
Moderate to high while the pump runs
Best for
Goods lifts, car lifts and low-rise buildings with limited shaft space

MRL Motor (Machine-Room-Less Gearless)

MRL Motor (Machine-Room-Less Gearless): overview, close-up views and installation

A compact gearless motor that fits inside the shaft, so no separate machine room is needed. Space-saving and energy-efficient.

Speed
1.0 – 1.75 m/s
Load capacity
400 – 1000 kg
Max floors
Up to 15 – 20 floors
Power rating
3.7 – 7.5 kW
Voltage
415 V, 3-phase AC
Noise level
Low (50 – 55 dB)
Best for
Residential and mid-rise buildings with limited terrace or roof space

VVVF Drive (Variable Voltage Variable Frequency)

VVVF Drive (Variable Voltage Variable Frequency): overview, close-up views and installation

The control technology used with both geared and gearless machines. It controls speed and torque precisely for a smooth ride and lower energy use.

Control type
Closed-loop or open-loop VVVF
Speed range supported
0.5 – 4.0 m/s, depending on the motor type
Energy saving
Typically 20 – 30% against traditional systems
Floor levelling accuracy
±5 mm
Best for
Modern lifts that need smooth start-stop and precision

Ranges below are typical for lifts in India. Exact figures depend on the manufacturer and the project, and are confirmed in writing after a site survey. Choose 3D View on any motor to rotate it.
